A sex worker from Shurugwi who gave birth during the national lockdown has been arrested after she threw away her child into a pit latrine.
The 24 year old thigh vendor identified as Netsai Ngazimbi dumped her baby because she had no way of supporting herself and the child since the lockdown locked away all her businesses.
She was arrested and remanded in custody by Shurugwi Magistrate Sithabile Zungula last week after she pleaded guilty of the charges laid against her.
The young lady gave birth on the 25th of April 2020 and she wrapped the baby with a blanket then threw her into the toilet.
One of the sex workers who resides at the same brothel with Netsai alerted the police after hearing some baby cries in the toilet.
The child was rescued alive but died upon admission at the hospital.
All sex workers from the brothel were taken to Zvamabande Rural Hospital where it was established that the baby belonged to Netsai leading to her arrest.
