Zupco increase prices by 100%

The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has increased bus fares by 100% with effect from Saturday , 5 September 2020.Lately, the Bus fares have been ZWL $8.00 and now the price been hiked to ZWL$16.00, while kombi fares have been increased from ZWL$16.00 to ZWL$32.00 per trip.Just over a month ago, the transport utility hiked bus fares by the same margin.ZUPCO chief executive Evaristo Madangwa said then:
The price of fuel has gone up and operating costs have also increased.By adjusting the fares upwards, we will be able to improve efficiency
Most people still run to ZUPCO because it is cheaper compared to illegal transport operators (Mushikashika) whose charges are equivalent to US$0.50 or ZWL$45.00 for short trips.Meanwhile, Econet which is undoubtedly Zimbabwe’s largest network operator has announced an increase in the prices for voice, out of bundle data, and SMS bundles with effect from the 7th of September.
