TOKYO – One of South Africa’s great medal hopes, Tatjana Schoenmaker, set the world alight with an Olympic record-breaking swim in Women’s 100m breaststroke heat 5 on Sunday.

Schoenmaker’s swim was made even more remarkable, as her swim cap was threatening to come undone as she approached the finish line.

The new Olympic record now held by Tatjana Schoenmaker stands at 1 minute and 4.82 seconds.
