Imbewu: The Seed; which boasts of 4 million viewers is undergoing a serious revamp in preparation for 2022. The telenovela is rumoured to be shedding most of their cast members and getting rid of its writers too.

The number of those whose contracts will allegedly; not be renewed for 2022; is alleged to be standing at 21. So for most of the technical staff; like the show’s writers are rumoured to be ending 2021 without contracts in their hands.

The telenovela which plays on etv; weekdays at 21h30; is finishing the year on a bad note as some of the contracts have not been renewed.

The local newspaper learned from an anonymous source; that the unrenewed contracts include some of the actors; who will not be returning in the new year.

This emerged when the etv channel; which oversees the Imbewu production; hired a new producer for the series.

The source whose contract; was also not renewed; told the local newspaper that; the new producer will be bringing in their own team to work with; prompting the unrenewal of most contracts.

The contracts were supposed to be negotiated at the end of December; but now that has fallen by the wayside; because 21 people are now faced with the axe.

The source said things seemed to be going well with the show; in terms of vierwership. Though the show is produced by the Grapevine; headed by Anant Singh; Duma KaNdlovu and Leleti Khumalo; they all report to the etv producer.

The source said; the Grapevine’s hands were tied; they had to agree with what they were instructed to do by etv.

The source continued to reveal; that the current producer resigned; but things are unclear about their resignation.

Another source said among those whose contracts were not renewed; is Nkanyiso Mchunu; who plays the role of Nkululeko Bhengu.

The source said; Mchunu’s departure is known by the cast; but there are other actors who will also be leaving. The source confirmed that; they were positive that all the writers will not be returning to the show.

New writers have been hired for the telenovela
The head of communications at etv;
Thapelo Ramatsui; confirmed that a new producer had been hired and that they will be starting in the new year.

Ramatsui said the old producer had found greener pastures elsewhere. He agreed that there will be a lot of drastic changes for the show; but could not be drawn into revealing whose contracts were not renewed.
