‘Nobody is bigger than the show’ Actors who were fired for disrespecting directors.
In recent years several actors have been fired for refusing to take directives from showrunners or not showing respect because of their power and influence. Well, some were axed for failing to put some respect to those in power or following storylines on scripts.
However, in the mix of things, we have managed to compile a list of South Africa’s seasoned actors who were fired for refusing to take directives from showrunners.
Don Mlangeni-Nawa – Isidingo
Don Mlangeni-Nawa is best known for his on-screen character Bra Zeb on Isidingo. The celebrated South African actor was axed from Isidingo after being part of its star-studded cast for 15-years. However, confirmed reports have it that the actor was axed after refusing to endorse one of the big banks through a line in his script.
In the mix of things, the showrunners Endemol, the company that produced Isidingo, denied the claims. However, they did reveal in their statement that the actor didn’t respect the show even tried to call the shots whilst he was an actor.
Luthuli Dlamini – Generations
The celebrated Zimbabwean born actor Luthuli Dlamini was shown the exit door by Generations creator Mfundi Vundla after failing to report for duty. He played the character of Scott.
According to an official statement, he went awol for days only to return and reveal that he was sick. Vundla fired him for not communicating with the showrunners. It was revealed that he had pulled up a drama scene like that was not the first incident.

Moshidi Motshegwa – The River
The seasoned actress was axed from The River after taking a swipe at the fellow cast as bad actors.
However, she was dumped in the eleventh hour and struggled to find her feet again in the industry despite being a big name. Moreover, she refused to take some lines from her script, making it hard for showrunners and other fellow casts.
Mpumelelo Bhulose – Imbewu: The Seed
The celebrated actor was fired from Imbewu: The Seed for not showing up on set and not following directives of showrunners.
Of late, he has been reported as one of the actors hard to work with. In the mix of things, bad behaviour has seen him struggling to secure gigs. Despite being the face of the show, we can all agree that his on-screen Zimele Bhengu was short-lived in Ombewu.
